MADISON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH STAFF

Reverend Courtney Pittman
Senior Pastor

Hi, I’m Courtney Pittman, and I’ve served as Senior Pastor at Madison Presbyterian since October 2023. I like to say I’m “not your typical clergy”—I’m an Enneagram 8 through and through, and I bring that energy into everything I do.

I graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary and have a heart for social justice, women’s issues, and the sacred rhythms of the Presbyterian Church (USA). I deeply believe in being an “outward church”—living out our faith by showing up and serving in the world as the hands and feet of Christ.

I’m married to my college sweetheart, Dewitt, and we have two amazing boys, Tripp and Townes, who keep life busy and full. Outside of church, you’ll usually find me out on a run, at the beach, mom-taxiing around town, or enjoying pizza in any and all forms.

I’m also a proud Instacart ninja, true crime podcast junkie, nonfiction lover, and UGA football fan. And yes—I will always fight for the Oxford comma. My dogs, Bear and Rowdy, are my loyal sidekicks and pretty much run the house.

Hi, I’m David Boardman—a percussionist, teacher, and handbell director with a heart for making music in community. I’ve been directing handbell choirs since 1999 and hold a music education degree from Florida State University.

Over the years, I’ve performed with the Savannah and Macon symphonies, and with my percussion quintet at events like the Atlanta Olympics and even public TV. I’ve also had the joy of using music for healing, coordinating rhythm-based programs at Camp Twin Lakes for kids facing serious challenges.

These days, I direct handbell choirs at Madison and Covenant Presbyterian Churches, and lead Bells of Northeast Georgia, an advanced concert ensemble. Wherever I’m working, I love helping people connect through music.

I’m a cradle Presbyterian, social worker, and mom of three teens. Growing up in a Navy family sparked my love for travel and new experiences. After college, I served as a Young Adult Volunteer in Northern Ireland, which led me to earn a Master’s in Social Work from Loyola Chicago. Since then, I’ve worked in youth counseling, leadership development, and community programs.

Before coming to MPC, I served as Director of Youth Ministries at First Pres in Athens, where I helped build a vibrant, connected youth program. I’ve also been involved nationally—writing curriculum, coaching youth leaders, and serving on the PYWA board.

At home, I’m supported by my husband, Erik, who works at UGA, and our three kids—Ben, Kate, and Tenny—as well as our two energetic pups, Desta and Gobez.

Jordan Newman

Director of Children’s Ministries

Hi everyone! I’m Jordan Newman, and I’m so excited to step into the role of Director of Children’s Ministries here at MPC! Some of you might already know me from the preschool—I’ve been the Lead Teacher in the two-year-old classroom and it’s been such a joy to be part of this community.

I am so privileged to support our kids in their faith journeys and help create fun, meaningful experiences for them. I particularly enjoy working on the Christmas pageant, heading up JAM on Wednesdays during the school year, and leading Children’s Church each Sunday.

I’ve lived in Morgan County since 2007, I have an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from GMC, and I’m also a proud mom to two awesome kids—Noah and Grace.

Hi, I’m Karisa Seymour! I’ve been teaching band and choir since 1991 and am currently the Band Director at Morgan County Middle School. I’m passionate about helping students grow through music, and I’m proud that our ensembles consistently earn top honors, including Superior ratings and performances at events like the Governor’s Mansion Holiday Celebration and the Macon Cherry Blossom Festival.

I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) and my master’s from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. I’m also a longtime member of Sigma Alpha Iota and several professional music organizations.

Outside of school, I love hiking, reading, swimming, and spending time with my family. My husband, Robert, is also a band director, and we have three amazing kids—Zachary, Nicholas, and Kathryn.

Meghan Shafer

Accompanist and Children’s Choir Director

Hi! I’m Meghan Shafer—a pianist, teacher, and lifelong music lover. I’m passionate about sharing God’s love through music, whether I’m teaching students or playing for a congregation.

I’ve been studying piano for over 20 years and teaching for more than a decade. Along the way, I earned my B.M. from Converse College in South Carolina and my M.M.E. from the University of Oklahoma. I’m currently working on my Ph.D. in music education at the University of Missouri (almost there!). In addition to my academic work and role at church, I run a private piano studio, where I love helping students grow in both skill and confidence.

My husband Daniel and I live in Athens, Georgia with our two very spoiled cats—Big Kitty and Little Kitty. When I’m not at the piano, you’ll probably find me out on a hiking trail, trying a new baking recipe, or working on a crochet project.
