Introducing Meghan Shafer

Meghan Shafer, Accompanist & Director of the Children’s Choir

Meghan Shafer is a pianist and educator with a passion for sharing God’s love through music with students and listeners of all ages. 

 Mrs. Shafer has a B.M. from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC, an M.Me. from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK, and is currently completing her dissertation to earn her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. Mrs. Shafer has been studying piano for over 20 years and has over a decade of experience as a piano teacher and professional church musician. She operates a private piano studio in addition to her academic studies and role with the church. 

 Mrs. Shafer lives with her husband Daniel and their two cats, Big Kitty and Little Kitty, in Athens, GA. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, baking, and crocheting.

Introducing Karisa Seymour

A native of Lilburn, Georgia, Mrs. Karisa Seymour graduated from the University of Georgia, holding positions in the Redcoat Band and Sigma Alpha Iota music sorority. She received her Master’s degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois.   

She is married to Robert Seymour, Band Director at Putnam County Middle School. They are parents to Zachary (24), Nicholas (23), and Kathryn (20).   They reside in Madison, GA, and are members of the First United Methodist church.   Karisa is active in church music ministries, directing children’s choirs and playing flute for worship services.  

Karisa’s favorite pastimes include hiking, reading, swimming, and spending time with family and friends.   She and her family enjoy visiting local restaurants and traveling.

Karisa Seymour is in her 14th year as Band Director at Morgan County Middle School in Madison, Georgia.  She began her career in Rockdale County in 1991 and has taught both Band and Choir at the high and middle school levels.   Her choirs have received superior ratings at Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) contests. Her students have been selected for All-State Chorus and Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Literary performances. Karisa also served as the Musical Director for the high school musical theater productions. 

Band has become an integral part of the school culture. Under her direction, Morgan County ensembles have earned consecutive Superior ratings in performance evaluation and representation in the GMEA All-State and District Honor bands.  Her ensembles have performed at the Governor’s Mansion Holiday Celebrations.    The Jazz Band is often requested to perform at community events, recently performing at the Macon Cherry Blossom Festival. 

Mrs. Seymour has served as a Guest Clinician and Adjudicator in Georgia.

In  2016-2017 she was Teacher of the Year for Morgan County Middle School.

Mrs. Seymour holds membership in Sigma Alpha Iota, the Golden Key National Honor Society, the National Association for Music Education, and the Georgia Music Educators Association.
